Coat Types

There are three main coat types Black and White Goldendoodles can have: wavy, curly or straight hair. Wavy and curly coats are the most common. Straight coats are pretty rare for Black and White Goldendoodles as this coat type is usually seen in reverse Goldendoodle generations where the Goldendoodle has been bred back to a Golden Retriever instead of a Poodle. Reverse Goldendoodles are hardly ever black and white as they have a higher percentage of Golden Retriever genes than Poodle genes and the black and white coat is inherited from the Poodle.

Curly

Most Black and White Goldendoodles have curly coats. They are much denser and thicker than wavy coats and more closely resemble the coat of a Poodle. Curly coats are one of the most common coat types as most Black and White Goldendoodles are from cross-back generations where the Goldendoodle has been bred back to a Poodle e.g. F1b, F1bb and F2b Goldendoodles. Curly coats are usually more hypoallergenic than other coat types.

Wavy

Wavy coats are the next most common Black and White Goldendoodle coat type. Their coats feature light, loose waves which gives them a teddy bear appearance. Wavy coats are generally easier to groom than curly coats as they are easier to brush.

Straight

Straight hair coats are extremely rare for Black and White Goldendoodles as straight hair usually occurs in generations that have a higher percentage of Golden Retriever genes than Poodle genes and the black and white coat color can only be inherited from the Poodle. They are usually not as hypoallergenic as wavy or curly coat Goldendoodles.
