White Goldendoodle Guide – Everything You Need To Know!

white goldendoodle

White Goldendoodles (AKA White Groodles) are a mixed breed dog, the resulting of breeding a Golden Retriever with a White Poodle. Their pure white coats are extremely rare and unique so it’s no surprise that they are so popular.

If you are interested in White Goldendoodles keep reading this article to find out all the answers to your questions about this dog breed!

Is There Such Thing As A White Goldendoodle?

Yes, there is such thing as a White Goldendoodle however they are not that common. They are created by breeding a cream or pale-colored Golden Retriever with a White Poodle. Golden Retrievers cannot have white coats which is one of the reasons why you don’t see White Goldendoodles around that much. If you want a white-coated Poodle mix breed, you may have more luck finding a White Labradoodle.

What Does A White Goldendoodle Look Like?

White Goldendoodles look a lot like Labradoodles as they are so pale. They feature a solid pure white coat that can be curly or wavy. White Goldendoodles usually have black noses and dark colored eyes.

If a Goldendoodle has more of an off-white or cream coat, they are actually an English Cream Goldendoodle. They are much more common than pure White Goldendoodles.

Are White Goldendoodles Rare?

White Goldendoodles are very rare. This is because the gene for a white coat can only be inherited from the Poodle side as Golden Retrievers cannot have white coats. Golden Retrievers do not produce the two recessive alleles that are required for a white coat. That is why White Goldendoodles are really only seen in back-cross generations such as F1b, F1bb and F2b Goldendoodles.

Coat Types

There are three main coat types White Goldendoodles can have: wavy, curly or straight hair. Wavy and curly coats are the most common. Straight coats are pretty rare for White Goldendoodles as they are usually seen in reverse Goldendoodle generations where the Goldendoodle has been bred back to a Golden Retriever instead of a Poodle. Reverse Goldendoodles are hardly ever white as they have a higher percentage of Golden Retriever genes than Poodle genes.

White Curly Goldendoodle

Most White Goldendoodles have curly coats. They are much denser and thicker than wavy coats and more closely resemble the coat of a Poodle. Curly coats are one of the most common coat types as most White Goldendoodles are from cross-back generations where the Goldendoodle has been bred back to a Poodle e.g. F1b, F1bb and F2b Goldendoodles. Curly coats are usually more hypoallergenic than other coat types.

White Wavy Goldendoodle

Wavy coats are the next most common White Goldendoodle coat type. Their coats feature light, loose waves which gives them a teddy bear appearance. Wavy coats are generally easier to groom than curly coats as they are easier to brush.

White Goldendoodle Straight Hair

Straight hair coats are extremely rare for White Goldendoodles as straight hair usually occurs in generations that have a higher percentage of Golden Retriever genes than Poodle genes and the white coat color can only be inherited from the Poodle. They are usually not as hypoallergenic as wavy or curly coat Goldendoodles.

Coat Color Changes

Do White Goldendoodles Change Color?

White Goldendoodles do not change color. They are one of the few Goldendoodle coat colors that do not change over their lifespan. A lot of Goldendoodles will fade as the mature if they have inherited the “fading” gene from the Poodle. This is not the case for White Goldendoodles as they can not go any lighter.

Do Goldendoodles Turn White?

Very pale Goldendoodles can turn white as they age. This is especially the case for light Apricot Goldendoodles or Cream Goldendoodles if they have inherited the “fading” gene from the Poodle. These coat color changes will occur within the first two years of life if they are going to happen.

White Goldendoodle Temperament

White Goldendoodles are highly excitable dogs by nature. They love spending time around people and other animals alike and are so affectionate and gentle. White Goldendoodles are keen to please which makes them pretty easy to train. They are also relatively easy to care for. The only real complaint of owners is the constant grooming requirements of Goldendoodles.

White Goldendoodle Price

White Goldendoodles usually cost between $2500USD and $4200USD. They have a similar price range to Black Goldendoodles. In addition to coat color, Goldendoodle size plays a massive role in determining their price. Generally smaller Goldendoodles cost more than large ones. Therefore, Teacup and Toy Goldendoodles are much more expensive than Standard Goldendoodles.

White Coat Variations

Many Goldendoodles feature white markings or white spots instead of being pure white. It’s actually much more common for Goldendoodles to have some white markings in their coat than be solid white. There is a whole category of Goldendoodle coat types dedicated to this type of white coat pattern called Parti Goldendoodles.

Black and White Goldendoodle

Black and White Goldendoodles feature a mainly white coat with black patches. The black patches are usually located on their chest, legs, muzzle, paws or above their eyes. Black and White Goldendoodles are a type of Parti Goldendoodle. They are sometimes called Tuxedo Goldendoodles if their black and white patches are in a pattern that makes it look like they’re wearing a suit.

Red and White Goldendoodle

Red and White Goldendoodles are a type of Parti Goldendoodle. Parti Goldendoodles have a white base coat that covers at least 50% of their body with a secondary color in patches over it. Besides black, red is a very common secondary color for Parti Goldendoodles.

White and Brown Goldendoodle

White and Brown Goldendoodles are another type of Parti Goldendoodle. White covers at least 50% of their body and they have large brown patches as well. The brown patches are usually featured on their back and head.

White and Tan Goldendoodle (AKA White and Apricot Goldendoodle)

White and Tan Goldendoodles feature a mainly white coat with tan or apricot patches on their back, head, ears and/or muzzle. Many people describe the coat color as being white and tan however its official name is white and apricot. This is because the patches are a very pale reddish-brown. Again this is a type of Parti Goldendoodle.

White Goldendoodle Haircuts

There are many different haircuts that you can give a White Goldendoodle. Some popular ones include:

  • Teddy Bear Cut
  • Puppy Cut
  • Poodle Cut
  • Lamb Cut
  • Summer Cut

White Goldendoodle Shedding

Do White Goldendoodles Shed?

White Goldendoodle do not shed much at all. They only drop a few strands of hairs here and there throughout the year. That is why they are classified as non to low shedders. Additionally, most White Goldendoodles come from cross-back generations like F1b, F1bb or F2b which already shed less than the average first generation Goldendoodle.

The best way to reduce the amount that your dog sheds is to regularly brush them. Slicker brushes are great for dogs with single coats and deshedding tools are great for dogs with double coats.

Are White Goldendoodles Hypoallergenic?

White Goldendoodles are hypoallergenic as they are a low shedding breed and therefore do not release much allergy inducing dander into their surroundings. most White Goldendoodles usually come from cross-back generations which are more hypoallergenic than F1 or F2 Goldendoodles.

You can make your dog even more hypoallergenic by keeping up a good grooming routine as it will stop them from releasing allergens into your home.

Your dog’s grooming routine should include both brushing and bathing. A brush down with a slicker brush every other day is ideal to remove any loose hairs. As for washing, a bath with a gentle dog shampoo every 3 months will remove dead skin cells, dirt and debris.

This may not seem that often but you don’t want to over wash your dog otherwise their coat will dry out which will only cause flaky skin which is an allergy irritant.
