Mini Maltipoo Temperament

Mini Maltipoos are an affectionate, gentle, intelligent breed. They love to play in short active bursts but equally enjoy cuddling and chilling out with their owners. The main downside of the Mini Maltipoo is that they really like to bark. This makes them a great watchdog however their small size won’t provide you with any protection!

Are Mini Maltipoos Aggressive?

Mini Maltipoos are not agressive. They are actually very gentle, affectionate and loyal. Sometimes Mini Maltipoos may be aggressive in unfamiliar or uncomfortable situations. They may also be aggressive if they were not properly socialized as a puppy.

Are Mini Maltipoos Smart?

Mini Maltipoos are very smart. They inherit their intelligence from the Miniature Poodle which is considered to be the 2nd smartest dog breed. As they are so smart, Mini Maltipoos are quite easy to train. They pick up new tricks and commands really quickly with positive reinforcement training techniques. A downside of the intelligence of Mini Maltipoos is that they become bored really easily which may lead to destructive behavior. That is why you need to give your Mini Maltipoo mental stimulation each day such as training, exercise or puzzle toys.

Do Mini Maltipoos Shed?

Mini Maltipoos are classified as light to non-shedders. They only drop a little bit of hair here and there throughout the year and do not go through heavy seasonal shedding like other breeds. Both of their parents, the Maltese and the Miniature Poodle do not shed much which is why they have inherited this characteristic.

It is important to realise that there is no such thing as a totally non-shedding dog and that Maltipoos along with other poodle mixes are the closest to this definition.

Are Mini Maltipoos Hypoallergenic?

Mini Maltipoos are hypoallergenic as they are very light shedders and do not release much allergy inducing dander (dead skin cells) into the environment when they shed. To make a Mini Maltipoos even more hypoallergenic, keep up a good grooming routine such as brushing every second day with a slicker brush to remove old hairs.
