Toy Maltipoos are hypoallergenic. The size of a Maltipoo, whether they are teacup, toy, miniature or standard sized does not affect how hypoallergenic they are. The generation of the breed has a greater impact. For example an F1b and other cross-back generations tend to be more hypoallergenic as they have a higher percentage of Poodle genes.

Do Toy Maltipoos Shed?

Toy Maltipoos are classified as light to non-shedders. They only drop a little bit of hair here and there throughout the year and do not go through heavy seasonal shedding like other breeds.

It is important to realise that there is no such thing as a totally non-shedding dog and that Maltipoos along with other poodle mixes are the closest to this definition.

Toy Maltipoo Generations

F1 Toy Maltipoo

F1 Toy Maltipoo is the first generation of the breed created by crossing a purebred Maltese with a purebred Toy Poodle. An F1 Toy Maltipoo is 50% Maltese and 50% Toy Poodle.

F1b Toy Maltipoo

The “F” in F1b Toy Maltipoo means “filial”, the “1” means first generation and the “b” means back-cross. An F1b Toy Maltipoo is created by crossing a F1 Toy Maltipoo with a purebred Toy Poodle. The resulting dog is 25% Maltese and 75% Toy Poodle.

F2 Toy Maltipoo

An F2 Toy Maltipoo is the second generation of the breed created by breeding a F1 Toy Maltipoo with another F1 Toy Maltipoo. They are 50% Maltese and 50% Toy Poodle.

Toy Maltipoo Coat Colors

Red Toy Maltipoo

Red Toy Maltipoos come in a variety of shades from light red to dark red. Their coats can be anywhere from a reddish cream to a rusty brown color. Only the Toy Poodle carries the genes for a red coat so Red Toy Maltipoos are usually created by breeding a Red Toy Poodle with a White Maltese.

Apricot Toy Maltipoo

An Apricot Toy Maltipoo has a very light red coat which has a peachy tone. It is somewhere between a light red and a cream. Only the Toy Poodle carries the genes for an apricot coat so Apricot Toy Maltipoos are usually created by breeding an Apricot or Red Toy Poodle with a White or Cream Maltese.

White Toy Maltipoo

White Toy Maltipoos feature a solid white coat. It may also be off-white or more of a cream color. Both Toy Poodles and Malteses can come in white so White Toy Maltipoos are quite easy to breed. They are the standard Toy Maltipoo color.

Black Toy Maltipoo

Black Toy Maltipoos feature a solid black coat. They may have small white patches over their body like on their chest or paws however these as technically Black and White Maltipoos. Toy Maltipoos can only be this color if the Toy Poodle has a black coat as purebred Malteses are never black.

Toy Maltipoo Exercise Needs

Toy Maltipoos are a very small dog and are often called a lap dog. Just because they are a lapdog does not mean they don’t need any exercise at all. Toy Maltipoos are stillfull of energy and need about 30 minutes of exercise each day. They enjoy going on short walks, running and playing games. Mental exercise is also required so they don’t get bored.
