Tear Stains

Why Do White Poodles Get Tear Stains?

There are many reasons why White Poodles get tear stains and they’re often more noticeable in white dogs than other coat colors due to the contrast between the stains and white coat.

White Poodles may get tear stains because of blocked tear ducts that can cause tears to spill over to the fur around their eyes. It can also be the result of eye infections which leads to increased tear production or be the result of allergies that irritate tearing. Diet can also affect straining color depending on the ingredients and mineral contents.

How Do You Get Tear Stains Out Of A White Poodle?

Removing tear stains requires consistent grooming. The easiest way to remove tear stains is to regularly clean the area around your White Poodle’s eyes with a damp cloth of cotton pad. You can also use lukewarm water or a veterinarian approved eye wash solution to remove excess residue.

Regularly trimming the fur around your Poodle’s eyes can also help minimize tear stains. It’s best to go to a professional groomer to do this to avoid eye injuries as they have special blunt tipped scissors.

Are White Poodles Hypoallergenic?

White Poodles, like all other Poodle coat colors and patterns, are considered to be hypoallergenic as they do not produce or release much allergy inducing dander into their immediate environment. Sometimes smaller sizes of Poodle such as Toy Poodles are considered to be more hypoallergenic than other Poodle sizes as smaller dogs produce less dander than larger dogs.

You can make your dog even more hypoallergenic by keeping up a good grooming routine as it will stop them from releasing allergens into your home.

Your dog’s grooming routine should include both brushing and bathing. A brush down with a slicker brush every other day is ideal to remove any loose hairs. As for washing, a bath with a gentle dog shampoo every 3 months will remove dead skin cells, dirt and debris.

This may not seem that often but you don’t want to over wash your dog otherwise their coat will dry out which will only cause flaky skin which is an allergy irritant.
