What Does A White Labradoodle Look Like?

White Labradoodles have a slightly off-white coat color. They have black or brown noses and dark colored eyes. White Labradoodles are also known as Chalk Labradoodles as their coat color is a very similar shade to chalk.

Are White Labradoodles Rare?

White Labradoodles are not rare. In fact they are one of the most common coat colors. Labradoodles inherit their white coat from the Poodle so they are usually created by breeding a White Poodle with a light-colored Labrador Retriever. Nevertheless, they can also be produced by breeding a light colored Poodle with a light-colored Labrador Retriever if the Poodle carries the S gene. The S gene is dominant and is responsible for white coats.

Coat Types

There are three main coat types White Labradoodles can have: wavy, curly or straight/flat coat. Wavy and curly coats are the most common while straight or flat coats are seen in Labradoodle generations that have a higher percentage of Labrador Retriever genes than Poodle genes.

White Labradoodle Wavy Hair

Wavy coats are very common for White Labradoodles. Their coats are quite light, loose and shaggy looking and usually ripple when they move. Wavy hair is classified as a fleece type coat.

White Labradoodle Curly Hair

Another common coat type for a White Labradoodle is a curly coat. They are much denser and thicker than wavy coats and more closely resemble the coat of a Poodle. Curly hair White Labradoodles are usually more hypoallergenic than other coat types as they shed less and therefore release less dander into their immediate environment. Curly hair is classified as a wool type coat.

White Labradoodle Straight Hair

White Labradoodles with straight hair look more like Labradors than their Poodle parentage as they have medium length scruffy white coats. There can be variation in what straight coats look like for Labradoodles. White Labradoodles with straight hair can feature:

Medium long fur that grows consistently over the face and body
Scruffy fur with tufts of hair sprouting out randomly over the body
Straight tufts of hair with a short wavy undercoat
Feathering along the tail, legs and face
Slick and glossy coat
Matte and flat coat
Variation in length and thickness of the coat

Coat Color Variations

Black and White Labradoodle

Black and White Labradoodles usually feature a mainly white coat with black patches however they can also have a mainly black coat with small white patches. Black and White Labradoodles with a mainly white coat are called Parti Labradoodles while ones with a mainly black coat are called Tuxedo Labradoodles as it looks like they’re wearing a suit. Black and White Parti Labradoodles have black patches that are usually located on their chest, legs, muzzle, paws or above their eyes.

Brown and White Labradoodle

Most Brown and White Labradoodles are Parti Labradoodles as they have a white base coat that covers at least 50% of their body with chocolate patches. The chocolate patches are usually a very rich brown however they can sometimes be a light brown. These patches are usually located on their ears, around their eyes, on top of their heads and on their backs. If you like the look of Brown and White Labradoodles, you may also like Chocolate Labradoodles.

Grey and White Labradoodle

Grey and White Labradoodles are usually Labradoodles that were black and white however their black patches faded to grey. The grey patches can range from a light grey to dark slate color. Most Grey and White Labradoodles have a gradation of dark to light grey areas within their grey patches.

Sometimes people call Merle Labradoodles ‘Grey and White’ Labradoodles as these are the main colors that are featured in a merle coat. A Blue Merle Labradoodle carries the merle gene which dilutes their originally black coat into mottled patches. This gene also affects eye color and skin pigmentation on the nose and paws so Merle Labradoodles often have very light eye colors such as blue and often have pink patches on their nose and paws.

Red and White Labradoodle

Most Red and White Labradoodles feature a mainly red coat with white patches on their chest, muzzle and paws. They usually have dark brown or black noses and dark brown eyes. Red and White Labradoodles can also be Parti Labradoodles where they feature a mainly white coat with red patches however these are much rarer than mainly red coated Red and White Labradoodles.

Apricot and White Labradoodle

Most Apricot and White Labradoodles have a mainly apricot coat with white patches however they can also have a mainly white coat with apricot patches. The apricot patches are very light in color and are somewhere between a light red and a cream with peachy undertones. If they are an Apricot Parti Labradoodle, the apricot patches are usually located on their ears, around their eyes and on their backs. Otherwise, if they have a mainly apricot coat, the white patches are located on their chest and muzzle.

Albino Labradoodles

Albino Labradoodles have white coats as they are incapable of producing pigment in their fur and skin. It’s easy to distinguish an Albino Labradoodle from a White Labradoodle as Albino Labradoodles do not have color on their noses or paw pads. They are pink instead of dark brown or black. Albinism is very rare so it is unlikely that if you see a white coated Labradoodle that it has this condition.

White Labradoodle Temperament

White Labradoodles have a lively and friendly temperament. They are a great addition to families as they are very gentle and get along well with children. White Labradoodles are often described as being outgoing, playful, curious and eager to please. They are a very intelligent breed and respond very well to training from an early age.

White Labradoodle Sizes

The size of a White Labradoodle depends on the size of Poodle the Labrador Retriever was crossed with. The three most common White Labradoodle sizes are Mini, Medium and Standard. You can also sometimes find White Teacup and Toy Labradoodles however they are not as common.

White Mini Labradoodles get to a height of 14 to 16 inches (35.6cm to 40.6cm) tall at the shoulder and weigh between 15 and 25 pounds (6.8kg to 11.3kg) when fully grown.

White Standard Labradoodle

White Standard Labradoodles get to a height of 20 to 26 inches (50.8cm to 66.0cm) tall at the shoulder and weigh between 50 and 100 pounds (22.7kg to 45.4kg). They are the largest and most common Labradoodle size besides Mini Labradoodles.

White Labradoodle Generations

White F1 Labradoodle

An F1 White Labradoodle is the first generation of the breed created by crossing a purebred Labrador Retriever with either a purebred Toy, Miniature or Standard White Poodle. A White F1 Labradoodle is 50% Labrador Retriever and 50% Poodle.

White F1b Labradoodle

An F1b White Labradoodle is created by crossing an F1 White Labradoodle with a purebred White Poodle that is either Toy, Miniature or Standard sized. A White F1b Labradoodle is 25% Labrador Retriever and 75% Poodle.

White F1bb Labradoodle

An F1bb White Labradoodle is a cross between an F1b White Labradoodle (Labradoodle x Poodle) and a purebred White Poodle which can be toy, miniature or standard sized. They are 12.5% Labrador Retriever and 87.5% Poodle.

White F2 Labradoodle

An F2 White Labradoodle is the second generation of the breed created by breeding a F1 White Labradoodle with another F1 White Labradoodle. They are 50% Labrador Retriever and 50% Poodle.

White Labradoodle Shedding

Do White Labradoodles Shed?

White Labradoodles do not shed much at all. They only drop a few strands of hairs here and there throughout the year. That is why they are classified as non to low shedders. Cross-back generations of White Labradoodle such as F1b, F1bb or F2b shed less than F1 White Labradoodles.

Are White Labradoodles Hypoallergenic?

White Labradoodles are hypoallergenic as they are a low shedding breed and therefore do not release much allergy inducing dander into their surroundings. White Labradoodles that have a higher percentage of Poodle genes such as F1b White Labradoodles are even more hypoallergenic than F1 White Labradoodles.

You can make your dog even more hypoallergenic by keeping up a good grooming routine as it will stop them from releasing allergens into your home.

Your dog’s grooming routine should include both brushing and bathing. A brush down with a slicker brush every other day is ideal to remove any loose hairs. As for washing, a bath with a gentle dog shampoo every 3 months will remove dead skin cells, dirt and debris.

This may not seem that often but you don’t want to over wash your dog otherwise their coat will dry out which will only cause flaky skin which is an allergy irritant.
