What Is A Petite Goldendoodle?

Petite Goldendoodles are the same as Toy Goldendoodles – just another name for the same sized dog. It is the result of breeding a Toy Poodle (sometimes called a Petite Poodle) with a Golden Retriever. Some breeders introduce Cocker Spaniel into their Petite Goldendoodle bloodlines however most are just Golden Retriever and Poodle.

What Is The Difference Between A Mini And A Petite Goldendoodle?

The main difference between Mini Goldendoodles and Petite Goldendoodles is size. Mini Goldendoodles are slightly larger than Petite Goldendoodles. Mini Goldendoodles are created by crossing a Golden Retriever with a Miniature Poodle while Petite Goldendoodles are created by crossing a Golden Retriever with a Toy/Petite Poodle.

Petite Goldendoodle Size

A Petite Goldendoodle gets to 10 to 16 inches (25.4cm to 40.6cm) tall at the shoulder and weigh between 10 and 25 pounds (4.5kg to 11.3kg) when fully grown. They stop growing between 8 and 11 months of age and around three and a half months of age are roughly half their adult size.

Petite Goldendoodle Price

Petite Goldendoodles cost between $2800USD and $4500USD. They are slightly cheaper than Micro/Teacup Goldendoodles as they are easier to breed. Petite Goldendoodles are the same price as Toy Goldendoodles as they are the same size dog.

Petite Goldendoodle Lifespan

On average, Petite Goldendoodles have a lifespan of 10 to 14 years. Their lifespan can greatly vary depending upon genetics, health conditions, lifestyle, diet etc. As they are slightly larger than Teacup Goldendoodles they don’t suffer from as many size related health issues but they still can suffer from them which is why their lifespan is shorter than larger Goldendoodle sizes.

F1 Petite Goldendoodle

An F1 Petite Goldendoodle is the first generation of the breed created by crossing a purebred Golden Retriever with either a purebred Toy Poodle (AKA Petite Poodle). An F1 Petite Goldendoodle is 50% Golden Retriever and 50% Toy Poodle.

F1b Petite Goldendoodle

An F1b Petite Goldendoodle is created by crossing an F1 Petite Goldendoodle with a purebred Toy Poodle (AKA Petite Poodle). The resulting dog is 25% Golden Retriever and 75% Toy Poodle.

F1bb Petite Goldendoodle

An F1bb Petite Goldendoodle is a cross between an F1b Petite Goldendoodle and a purebred Toy Poodle (AKA Petite Poodle). They are 12.5% Golden Retriever and 87.5% Toy Poodle.

F2 Petite Goldendoodle

An F2 Petite Goldendoodle is the second generation of the breed created by breeding a F1 Petite Goldendoodle with another F1 Petite Goldendoodle. They are 50% Golden Retriever and 50% Toy Poodle.

Do Petite Goldendoodles Shed?

Petite Goldendoodles are classified as light to non-shedders. They only drop a little bit of hair here and there throughout the year and do not go through heavy seasonal shedding like other breeds. It is important to realise that there is no such thing as a totally non-shedding dog and that Petite Goldendoodles along with other Poodle mixes are the closest to this definition.

Are Petite Goldendoodles Hypoallergenic?

Petite Goldendoodles are hypoallergenic as they are a low shedding breed and therefore do not release much allergy inducing dander into their surroundings. That being said, some Petite Goldendoodle are more hypoallergenic than others. For example, F1b and F1bb Petite Goldendoodles are generally more hypoallergenic than F1 or F2 Petite Goldendoodles.

You can make your dog even more hypoallergenic by keeping up a good grooming routine as it will stop them from releasing allergens into your home.

Your dog’s grooming routine should include both brushing and bathing. A brush down with a slicker brush every other day is ideal to remove any loose hairs. As for washing, a bath with a gentle dog shampoo every 3 months will remove dead skin cells, dirt and debris.

This may not seem that often but you don’t want to over wash your dog otherwise their coat will dry out which will only cause flaky skin which is an allergy irritant.

Petite Goldendoodle Coat Colors

Petite Goldendoodles can come in a range of coat colors including red, apricot, white, cream, chocolate, black and more. Petite Red Goldendoodle

Petite Red Goldendoodles come in a variety of shades from light red to dark red. Their coats can be anywhere from a reddish cream to a rusty brown color. Petite Goldendoodles with lighter red coats are usually called Apricot Goldendoodles.

Petite Apricot Goldendoodle

Petite Apricot Goldendoodles have very light red coats with a peachy tone. They are somewhere between a light red and a cream. Only the Toy/Petite Poodle carries the genes for an apricot coat so Apricot Petite Goldendoodles are usually created by breeding an Apricot or Red Poodle with a light Golden Retriever.

Petite White Goldendoodle

Petite White Goldendoodles look a lot like Labradoodles as they are so pale. They feature a solid pure white coat that can be curly or wavy and usually have black noses and dark colored eyes. Petite White Goldendoodles are quite rare and are only really seen in back-cross generations such as F1b or F1bb. Petite Black Goldendoodle

Petite Black Goldendoodles feature a solid black coat. They may have small white patches over their body like on their chest or paws however these are technically Black and White Goldendoodles. Goldendoodles can only be this color if they inherit it from the Toy/Petite Poodle as purebred Golden Retrievers are never black.

Petite Chocolate Goldendoodle

Petite Chocolate Goldendoodles have a solid brown coat that can range from a very light shade to a dark brown. They inherit this coat color from the Poodle side. Brown coats were originally a result of a mutation of the gene that produces a black coat. It is a recessive gene so both parents need to carry it to get a Chocolate Goldendoodle.

Petite Goldendoodle Exercise Needs

As Petite Goldendoodles are smaller than Standard Goldendoodles, they do not require as much exercise each day but that does not mean that they don’t need anything. They are still a very energetic dog, so require at least half an hour of exercise each day to expel all their energy.

Petite Goldendoodles really enjoy walks, hiking, going to dog parks and also swimming. They also enjoy indoor play like tug-o-war, playing with toys and also learning new tricks. It’s important to exercise a Petite Goldendoodle’s mind as well as their body so doing some training each week is a great idea.

Petite Goldendoodles are very intelligent so they respond very well to training. You should start teaching your Petite Goldendoodle basic commands such as their name, sit, stay and come from the moment they arrive home. You can then progress to more difficult tricks and commands.

When training your dog it is important to use positive reinforcement techniques as dogs repeat good behavior when it is followed by a reward such as a treat or their favorite toy. Clicker training is another type of positive reinforcement training that is a good method for learning new tricks. You use a clicker device so your dog can associate a new behavior with a click and then a reward.

Petite Goldendoodle Grooming

Petite Goldendoodles need to be groomed every 6 to 10 weeks. If you prefer that your Goldendoodle has a shorter coat at all times they need to be groomed every 6 to 8 weeks. If you prefer a longer coat, they should be groomed every 8 to 10 weeks. This can be done at a professional groomer or you can learn how to cut your dog’s hair at home from watching YouTube videos and investing in a dog grooming kit.

The best way to reduce the amount that your dog sheds is to regularly brush them. Slicker brushes are great for dogs with single coats and deshedding tools are great for dogs with double coats.
