What Is A Toy Cockapoo?

A Toy Cockapoo is a cross between a Toy Poodle and a Cocker Spaniel. They are one of the smallest Cockapoo sizes. Toy Cockapoos can either look more like a Cocker Spaniel or a Poodle depending on the generation and the percentage mix of Cocker Spaniel to Poodle. Toy Cockapoos are a sweet, loving and friendly dog.

Toy Cockapoo Size

A Toy Cockapoo is the second smallest Cockapoo size. They get to a height of 10 to 11 inches (25cm to 28cm) at the shoulder and weigh between 7 and 12 pounds (3.2kg to 5.4kg).

Toy Cockapoos stop growing between 7 to 11 months when they get to the height of 10 to 11 inches. Usually they get to their full height around 8 months and after that continue to fill out with more muscle.

Are Toy Cockapoos Hypoallergenic?

Toy Cockapoos are hypoallergenic as they are very light shedders and do not release much allergy inducing dander (dead skin cells) into the environment when they shed. In fact, all sizes of Cockapoo are hypoallergenic.

Do Toy Cockapoos Shed?

Toy Cockapoos are classified as light to non-shedders. They only drop a little bit of hair here and there throughout the year and do not go through heavy seasonal shedding like other breeds.

It is important to realise that there is no such thing as a totally non-shedding dog and that Cockapoos along with other poodle mixes are the closest to this definition.

Toy Cockapoo Generations

F1 Toy Cockapoo

An F1 Toy Cockapoo is the first generation of the breed, created by crossing a purebred Cocker Spaniel with a purebred Toy Poodle. F1 Toy Cockapoos are 50% Cocker Spaniel and 50% Toy Poodle.

F1b Toy Cockapoo

The “F” in F1b Cockapoo means “filial”, the “1” means first generation and the “b” means back-cross. An F1b Toy Cockapoo is created by crossing an F1 Toy Cockapoo with a purebred Toy Poodle. The resulting dog is 25% Cocker Spaniel and 75% Toy Poodle.

F2 Toy Cockapoo

An F2 Toy Cockapoo is the second generation of the breed created by breeding a F1 Toy Cockapoo with another F1 Toy Cockapoo. They are 50% Cocker Spaniel and 50% Toy Poodle.

Toy Cockapoo Coat Colors

Red Toy Cockapoo

Red Toy Cockapoos have a solid red colored coat that can range from light red to dark red. Some Red Cockapoos are a very light shade similar to a strawberry blonde while others are a dark chestnut red. Red Cockapoos can either be a solid coat or feature small white patches on their chest and paws.

An Apricot Toy Cockapoo is a very light red color that has peachy undertones. Often the strands of hair closest to their body is a cream or off-white color and the tips are a light peachy red.

Black Toy Cockapoo

Black Toy Cockapoos have a solid black coat. They have dark brown or black eyes and a black nose. Black Toy Cockapoos can have a white patch on their chest however this is technically a Black and White Cockapoo.

Chocolate Toy Cockapoo

Chocolate Toy Cockapoos look like any other Cockapoo however they have a rich brown coat that is either solid or features a white patch on their chest. Chocolate Toy Cockapoos can also have white patches on their paws which makes them look like they are wearing socks. They also usually have a light brown nose and brown or hazel eyes.

Phantom Toy Cockapoo

Phantom Toy Cockapoos have bi-colored coats that feature a solid background color with patches of another lighter color on their chest, the sides of their muzzle, above the eye, on their throat and/or on their legs. Most commonly Phantom Toy Cockapoos have a black or dark brown (chocolate) background color with patches of beige or cream fur.

Toy Cockapoo Exercise Needs

As Toy Cockapooss are smaller than Standard Cockapoos they do not require as much exercise each day but that does not mean they don’t need anything. They are still a very energetic dog, so need between 30 minutes and an hour of exercise each day. Toy Cockapoos enjoy going on walks, running and playing games. Mental exercise is also required so they don’t get bored and destructive.

Toy Cockapoo Grooming

Toy Cockapoos need to be groomed every 8 to 12 weeks. If you prefer that your Cockapoo has a shorter coat they need to be groomed every 8 to 10 weeks. If you prefer a longer coat, they can be groomed every 10 to 12 weeks. This can be done at a professional groomer or you can learn how to cut your dog’s hair at home from watching YouTube videos and investing in a dog grooming kit.
