Coat Types

There are three main coat types Teddy Bear Goldendoodles can have: wavy, curly or straight hair. Wavy and curly coats are the most common. Straight coats are usually seen in reverse Goldendoodle generations where the Teddy Bear Goldendoodle has been bred back to an English Creme Golden Retriever instead of a Poodle. The curliest coats are seen in back-cross Goldendoodle generations such as F1b Goldendoodles and F1bb Goldendoodles.

Curly

Most Teddy Bear Goldendoodles have curly coats. They are much denser and thicker than wavy coats and more closely resemble the coat of a Poodle. Curly coats are one of the most common coat types as most Teddy Bear Goldendoodles are from cross-back generations where the Goldendoodle has been bred back to a Poodle e.g. F1b, F1bb and F2b Goldendoodles. Curly coats are usually more hypoallergenic than other coat types.

Wavy

Wavy coats are the next most common Teddy Bear Goldendoodle coat type. Their coats feature light, loose waves which gives them a teddy bear appearance. Wavy coats are generally easier to groom than curly coats as they are easier to brush.

Straight

Straight hair coats usually occur in generations that have a higher percentage of Golden Retriever genes than Poodle genes such as F1b Reverse Goldendoodles. They are usually not as hypoallergenic as wavy or curly coat Goldendoodles.

Shedding

Do Teddy Bear Goldendoodles Shed?

Teddy Bear Goldendoodles do not shed much at all. They only drop a few strands of hairs here and there throughout the year. That is why they are classified as non to low shedders. Cross-back generations of Goldendoodle such as F1b, F1bb or F2b shed less than F1 Goldendoodles.

Are Teddy Bear Goldendoodles Hypoallergenic?

Teddy Bear Goldendoodles are hypoallergenic as they are a low shedding breed and therefore do not release much allergy inducing dander into their surroundings. Teddy Bear Goldendoodles that have a higher percentage of Poodle genes such as F1b Goldendoodles are even more hypoallergenic than F1 Goldendoodles.
