They can inherit their coat color from either parent breed – the Maltese or the Yorkshire Terrier. Malteses come in one officially recognized AKC coat color which is white. They can also have white & lemon coats or white & tan coats however these are not standard colors. Yorkshire Terriers on the other hand come in four AKC recognized colors including black & tan, blue & gold, blue & tan or black & gold.

Black Morkie

Solid black Morkies are quite rare. They feature a totally black coat with black eyes and jet black noses. They may have tiny white patches on their chest and chin however these are technically Black & White Morkies.
Black Morkies can only inherit this coat color from the Yorkshire Terrier side. They are usually created by breeding a White Maltese with a Black & Tan or Black & Gold Yorkshire Terrier. Most Morkies from this litter will have a bi-colored coat instead of a solid black one.

Brown Morkie

Brown Morkies feature a mainly dark brown coat with tan patches. Their noses and eyes are dark or light brown. It’s extremely rare to find a solid brown Morkie as most have tan patches throughout their coats. The tan patches are usually located on their muzzle, their legs, their ears and above their eyes which gives them the appearance of eyebrows.
Brown Morkies are created by breeding a White Maltese or White & Tan Maltese with a Black & Tan, Blue & Gold or Blue & Tan Yorkshire Terrier. Like Black Morkies, most of the litter will have bi-colored coats instead of a solid brown one.

Chocolate Morkies are created by breeding a White Maltese or White & Tan Maltese with a Black & Tan, Blue & Gold or Blue & Tan Yorkshire Terrier. They feature a light brown coat that usually fades with age.
Sometimes breeders may introduce another dog breed into the Morkie mix to create a solid dark brown coat however this does not happen that often.

Parti Morkie

A Parti Morkie has a white base coat that covers at least 50% of their body with a secondary color marbled through it. Most of the time the secondary color is black, brown or tan. The most common Parti Morkie is a Black & White Parti Morkie.
Morkies inherit the Parti coat from the Yorkshire Terrier. They usually breed a Blue & Gold or Blue & Tan Yorkshire Terrier with a White Maltese or White & Tan Maltese to create the Parti Morkie. Most Blue & Gold or Blue & Tan Yorkshire Terriers are in fact Parti despite not having ‘white’ in their coat color name. Most Blue & Gold or Blue & Tan Yorkies are mainly white with blue, gold or tan patches throughout the coat.
