What Is A Micro Morkie?

A Micro Morkie is a multigenerational mix breed made by breeding a Teacup Yorkshire Terrier with a Maltese on the smaller size. Breeders then continuously breed successive generations together until they consistently get a tiny size. “Micro” is a relatively new term that breeders are using to describe the smallest size of Morkie however there is hardly any difference between the size of a micro Morkie and a teacup Morkie. It is usually used as a marketing term to suggest that they are selling a unique Morkie size.

While many people are drawn towards animals that are cute due to their tiny size, you need to be aware that Micro Morkies are often unethically bred. They are likely to suffer from severe health issues linked to their tiny size like poor bone density, heart defects, heart murmurs, seizures etc

How Big Do Micro Morkies Get?

Micro Morkies get to a height of 6 to 8 inches (15.2cm to 20.3cm) and weigh between 5 and 9 pounds (2.3kg to 4.1kg). They reach their full adult size around 6 months of age.

Micro Morkie Lifespan

Micro Morkies have a lifespan of 8 to 12 years. While it is a general rule that a smaller dog has a longer life span, this does not apply to Micro breeds as they unfortunately suffer from many health issues due their tiny size.

Micro Morkie Price

Micro Morkies sell for prices between $4000USD and $5500USD. They are the most expensive size as the litters are smaller. Breeding them is much more intense as they are so delicate and can suffer from a variety of health issues which breeders often have to treat in their first few weeks of life.

What Is A Teacup Morkie?

A Teacup Morkie is a cross between a Teacup Yorkshire Terrier and a Maltese. They are one of the smallest Morkie sizes besides the micro Morkie that is only slightly shorter. While many people are drawn towards animals that are cute due to their tiny size, you need to be aware that Teacup Morkies are often unethically bred. Their small size makes Teacup Morkies subject to size related health issues such as poor bone density, heart defects, heart murmurs, seizures etc.

How Big Do Teacup Morkies Get?

Teacup Morkies get to a height of 6 to 9 inches (15.2cm to 22.9cm) and weigh between 5 and 10 pounds (2.3kg to 4.5kg). They reach their full adult size around 6 months of age.

Teacup Morkie Temperament

Compared to the Standard Morkie, Teacup Morkies are a little more timid but that doesn’t mean they don’t have a larger than life personality around people they know well. Teacup Morkies love being the centre of attention which is why they do best in single pet households as they can get quite jealous. They are quite affectionate to their owners however they usually pick a favourite person in the household. Teacup Morkies can be quite vocal despite their small size and are not afraid to bark. This can make them a good watchdog but they wouldn’t be much good being a guard dog due to their teeny tiny size.

Teacup Morkie Lifespan

Teacup Morkies live for 8 to 12 years. While it is a general rule that a smaller dog has a longer life span, this does not apply to Teacup breeds as they unfortunately suffer from many health issues due their tiny size.

Teacup Morkie Price

Teacup Morkies usually cost between $4000USD and $5500USD. They are usually more expensive than the standard size as the litters are smaller. Breeding them is much more intense as they are so delicate and can suffer from a variety of health issues due to their tiny size.

What Is A Standard Morkie?

A Standard Morkie is a cross between a Standard Yorkshire Terrier and a Maltese. They are the largest and most common Morkie size. Even though the standard Morkie is the largest size, they are still classified as a small breed. Their small size makes them highly suited to apartment living and a good companion for older children as well as seniors.

Standard Morkies can either look more like a Yorkshire Terrier or more like a Poodle depending on the percentage mix of genes and what generation they are (F1 Morkie, F1b Morkie, F2 Morkie etc.). They usually have short triangular floppy ears on a round face with black button eyes and a black nose. They come in many different coat colors such as black, brown and white.

How Big Do Standard Morkies Get?

Standard Morkies get to a height of 8 to 10 inches (20.3cm to 25.4cm) and weigh between 7 and 12 pounds (3.2kg to 5.4kg). Standard Morkies reach their full adult size around 8 months of age.

Standard Morkie Temperament

Standard Morkies may be a small dog but they have a big personality. They require a lot of attention and do not do well in multi-pet households as they always want to be the centre of attention. Morkies do best in single-pet households. If you train them and socialize them from a very young age, they can get along well with other pets. This at times may be difficult as they can be quite stubborn and have a mind of their own however with some persistence and patience they will learn. Be aware that Standard Morkies really like to bark so this may be an issue if you live in a high density area with neighbours that are not understanding.

Standard Morkie Lifespan

Standard Morkies have a lifespan of 10 to 15 years. There are many factors that affect the lifespan of a Morkie including gender, generation and whether they are desexed or intact. These variables mean they can have shorter or longer lifespans than the average. You can give a Morkie the best chance of living a long life by exercising them daily, feeding them healthy food and keeping on top of vet appointments.

Standard Morkie Price

Standard Morkies usually sell for prices between $3500USD and $4500USD. Yorkshire Terrier crosses as well a Maltese crosses are generally very expensive as it is currently very trendy to own very small dog breeds. Not many people breed Morkies compared to other hybrid dog breeds which is another reason why they are quite expensive.
