The Ultimate Dog Camping Gear List

When you go camping with your dog, the gear that you need to bring includes: a travel bag, water in a cooler, collapsible dog travel bowls, biodegradable dog poop bags, a short and an extendable dog leash, a tie out cable and stake, your dog’s collar, harness and ID tags, a dog travel bed, some form of shade like a dog tent, warmth e.g. a blanket, pet grooming wipes, a dog first aid kit, long lasting treats, dog towels, your dog’s favourite toys, a collar light and maybe a dog hiking backpack.

1. Dog Food In A Travel Bag

You don’t realise how many people pack everything for their dog, like there selection of 50 toys, but then get to their destination and realise they have forgotten the food! Don’t be this person!!!

The best way to transport food to a camping ground and keep it fresh is to use a kibble travel bag. They are made of tough fabric and are super light weight and compact as they roll down as you use the food!

You could also consider getting a full dog gear travel bag where you can store all of your dog’s belongings inside including the food.

2. Water In A Water Cooler

Before setting out on your camping trip, check that the site that you are going to has a tap for water or some sort of shop nearby where you can purchase water. Otherwise you will need to bring a large water cooler for yourself and your dog.

3. Collapsible Dog Travel Bowls

Now that you have remembered to pack your dogs water and food, you need something to serve it in – a collapsible dog travel bowl. I recommend getting one of these travel bowls even if you are not going camping. They are super handy to leave in your car’s glove box so you can give your dog water whenever you are out and about.

4. Biodegradable Poop Bags

Another common piece of dog camping gear that people forget are the poop bags! Please be a responsible dog owner when you are camping.

I really like to get environmentally friendly dog poop bags to reduce my usage of plastic. The ones recommended below are made of corn starch and are biodegradable!

1. Earth Rated Dog Poop Bags, Extra Thick and Strong Poop Bags

5. Short & Extendable Dog Lead

It may seem like overkill bringing two dog leads however they will both come in useful when camping with your dog.

A short dog lead is useful for the campground when you need to keep your dog close to you when around other campers.

An extendable dog leash is useful when you go exploring or hiking with your dog. It will let your dog be able to sniff new ground without getting too far away from you. Just be aware of dog leash length restrictions that some locations have in place.

6. Tie Out Cable & Stake

A tie out cable and stake can be used when you need to leave your dog at the campsite unsupervised or you when you don’t want to hold onto the dog lead anymore. These contraptions screw into the ground and then a long leash is connected to them. Be aware that they are not suited to all dogs, especially very large and strong breeds.

7. Collar, Harness & ID Tags

ID tags are a must when you are going travelling with your dog. You and your dog are not familiar with the surrounding environment and can easily get lost. Make sure your phone number is on your dog’s ID tag!

Also remember to bring a collar and harness so you can go walking or hiking with your dog. Most camping grounds require that dogs wear at bare minimum a collar.

8. Dog Travel Bed

Your pooch also needs a comfy spot to sleep each night and your sleeping bag might not seem like the best idea to you. Don’t worry as there are a wide range of dog travel beds and dog sleeping bags available on the market. Below are some of the best.

9. Shade

You don’t know how much shade will be available at your camping site so that is why it is a good idea to bring your own. For your dog, you can get a miniature tent especially designed for dogs. Your dog can chill out and sleep in one of these tents.

10. Warmth

It can get cold very quickly at night when you are camping. While your dog might have the longest, fluffiest fur, it doesn’t mean that he/she will stay warm the whole night. That is why it is vital to bring a dog blanket with you camping.

11. Dog Grooming Wipes

Out in the wild, your dog can become quite dirty very quickly. You probably don’t want to give your dog a full bath while camping so it is best to use grooming wipe to clean up instead.

12. Dog First Aid Kit

When you are camping your dog will be exposed to a wide range of wildlife and other hazards. You never know when an accident might happen so I suggest that you bring a dog first aid kit with you. The difference between a dog first aid kit and a human first aid kit is that a dog one has extra additions such as a dog cone, dog booties/socks and dog splints etc.

1. Adventure Medical Kits Adventure Dog Series Me & My Dog First Aid Kit

13. Long Lasting Treats

Sitting around at a campsite can get quite boring for dogs. That is when long lasting dog treats come in handy. Give your dog one of these and he/she will be busy for hours!

I don’t have any recommendations for long lasting treats as all dogs have different special diets and needs. Also most treats don’t ship worldwide, so it is difficult purchasing them online. However I am sure that you will be able to find a wide selection of long lasting treats at your local pet store.

14. Dog Towels

A dog towel is a good idea for when it rains or if you go swimming with your dog. The special dog towels with gloves just make the process of drying your dog much quicker.

My Top Recommendations

1. The Original Dirty Dog Shammy Ultra Absorbent Microfiber Quick Drying Towel with Hand Pockets

15. Your Dogs Favourite Toys

In addition to treats you should bring some of your dogs favourite toys so he/she will feel comfortable like she is at home. They are one of the best entertainment options you have for your dog.

I highly recommend getting a Kong toy as you can fill the hole with peanut butter. This treat toy will keep your dog busy for a really long time.

My Top Recommendations

1. KONG – Classic Dog Toy – Durable Natural Rubber – Fun to Chew, Chase and Fetch

16. Collar Light

If you are going on night walks or let your dog off lead at night, a dog collar light is a good idea so you can easily keep on eye on your dog. The one recommended below is really cool because you can change it’s colour to whatever you like.

17. Dog Backpack For Long Hikes (Optional)

Not everyone goes hiking when camping but if you do, you should consider getting a dog backpack so your dog can carry some of the weight. In the pockets you can put his water bowls, food and treats. Just be careful that you don’t overload them.

  • This design is spectacular! You most certainly
know how to keep a reader entertained. Between your wit and

I really enjoyed what you had to say, and more
than that, how you presented it. Too cool!
