The Bordoodle is a cross breed dog, the resulting of breeding a Border Collie with a Poodle. As a cross breed, there are many different ways that breeders can mix the two breeds to alter the genetic make up of the Bordoodle. The most common Bordoodle generations are F1, F1b and F2 where each generation has a different percentage mix of Border Collie to Poodle.

The “F” in F1 Bordoodle means “filial” and the “1” means first generation. “Filial” is simply a way to denote generation. If a Bordoodle is F1, it means that it is a first generation puppy – the result of crossing a Border Collie with a Poodle.

F1 Bordoodles do not shed much at all. They are classified as as a light to non-shedding breed. One of the reasons why the Poodle was originally crossed with the Border Collie was to reduce their shedding whilst retaining their good temperament.
Are F1 Bordoodles Hypoallergenic?
Yes, F1 Bordoodles are considered to be hypoallergenic. Dogs are hypoallergenic when they don’t shed much and therefore don’t release much allergy inducing dander (dead skin cells) into their immediate environment. That being said, there are other generations of Bordoodle that are more hypoallergenic than the F1 generation e.g F1b Bordoodles.

What Does F1b Bordoodle Mean?
The “F” in F1b Bordoodle means “filial”, the “1” means first generation and the “b” means back-cross. An F1b Bordoodle is the first back-cross generation of the breed. Back-cross means that the dog has been bred back to a purebred Poodle.
What Is An F1b Bordoodle?
An F1b Bordoodle is created by crossing an F1 Bordoodle with a purebred Poodle that is either Toy, Miniature or Standard sized. The resulting dog is 25% Border Collie and 75% Poodle.

Do F1b Bordoodles Shed?
F1b Bordoodles are classified as light to non-shedders. They shed even less than F1 Bordoodles. F1b Bordoodles shed less than F1 Bordoodles as they have a higher percentage of Poodle genes.
