Coat color changes may happen to their whole coat or just certain sections.

What Is A Blue Merle Aussiedoodle?

A Blue Merle Aussiedoodle has a blue, grey, white and tan coat in a distinct mottled pattern. They would have originally had a solid grey coat but the merle gene diluted it into mottled patches. The merle gene also affects eye color and skin pigmentation on the nose and paws. This means that Merle Aussiedoodles often have very light eye colors such as blue and often have pink patches on their nose and paws.

Are Blue Merle Aussiedoodles Rare?

No, Blue Merle Aussiedoodles are not rare. Unlike other Poodle mix breeds, the majority of Aussiedoodles have a blue merle coat. This is because the merle gene is dominant and most Australian Shepherds carry it. To create a Blue Merle Aussiedoodle, a Blue Merle Australian Shepherd is crossed with a light colored Poodle.

Blue Merle Aussiedoodle Price

Blue Merle Aussiedoodles sell for prices between $3000USD and $3900USD. While it is a super common coat color, they are quite expensive because breeders have to be extra careful with tracking their lineage to ensure they don’t breed double merles. Double Merle Aussiedoodles are extremely likely to suffer from severe ocular and auditory defects and often have no pigmentation in their coats. That is why breeders can’t cross two dogs that carry the merle gene.
