The best way to keep your dog dry in the rain is to use a dog raincoat. Other ways you can keep your dog dry in the rain are to use dog gumboots, a dog leash umbrella or to train your dog to walk underneath your own umbrella. While a dog raincoat will protect your dog the best against rain, it will still leave your dog’s paws wet as well as their head (unless their is a hood) wet. That is why it is a good idea to have a towel ready at the entrance of your house to dry your dog before they enter the house.

Dog umbrella’s are just like human umbrellas however they are inverted with the handle at the top so it works like a dog leash. Inside the umbrella there is a short chain that connects to a collar that you can put on your dog. I am not 100% sure how effective dog umbrellas are as I can see how an enthusiastic dog could walk too far in front of the actual cover but if you want to get a dog product as more a gimmick or for fun I would suggest it.

4. Put A Coat Underneath The Raincoat If It’s Very Cold

If a dog raincoat is not giving your dog enough protection against cold and windy weather, you can layer up your dog by putting a coat underneath. In most cases this is not necessary however if it is really cold weather e.g. nearing freezing, it wouldn’t hurt. Just make sure your dog doesn’t overheat!

The worst bit about walking your dog in the rain is definitely the clean up when you arrive home. Luckily you can make it really easy by using a wrap-around dog towel.

It is a really good idea to leave one of these towels at the entry of your house so when you enter the door you can quickly wipe your dog over and then leave it on him/her.
